You may remember that near the beginning of this project, on Day 7, I went to see the Dusk Dances in Withrow Park. I had misunderstood the nature of the event and was disappointed that I didn't get to do any dancing.
So today I did some dancing! It's kind of a travesty that it took til Day 36 to dance, but there it is.
I didn't go night club dancing - those nights are becoming more and more infrequent (so sad!). I went to a dance studio called Joy of Dance. I don't think there could be a better name for a dance studio - that is exactly what I feel when I dance. Come to think of it - there should be a "Joy of Chocolate" chocolate bar, a "Joy of Singing" choir or karaoke bar and a "Joy of Cooking" cookbook. Oh - someone already thought of that one I guess.

Since I have not managed to do any other dancing in the past 35 days, I decided to load it up and do 2 dances for a solid 2.5 hours of dancing. It was a bit crazy but a lot of fun.
Class #1
The first class I did this evening was Bollywood. My first time trying Bollywood. It was really fun, the moves weren't that difficult (must be my Indian roots coming out) but it was quite high energy. I got pretty sweaty and started to regret that I had already signed up and paid for a second back-to-back class.
Class #2
I almost didn't sign up for a second class. It is a bit intimidating to take a Hip Hop class at an actual dance studio, where real dancers go and everything - it was not a beginner class and was open to all levels. But the lady at the front desk talked me into it, and the teacher was sitting right there and encouraged me to try it, so I did.
This class was WAY WAY WAY harder. Even the warm-up was challenging. Actually the warm-up had me really worried. The stretching alone was completely beyond what I could do, so I was concerned that the dancing would be impossible.
I loved the teacher though - the dread locks and big flannel t-shirt were awesome and I also liked how she taught using 8 counts in addition to coupling the moves with the words of the song. I was a bit out of my depth, but decided I didn't care. Two of the people in the class were even more out of their depth than me and ended up leaving after about 10 minutes of the 1.5 hour class. I stuck it out and was glad I did.
Despite the impossible warm-up, the fact that I lost my place multiple times and the 'N Sync song that the routine was choreographed to, I would absolutely go to this class again.
I thought I'd share the lyrics of the 'N Sync song Pop ...

It doesn't matter
'Bout the car I drive or
What I wear around my neck
All that matters
Is that you recognize
That it's just about respect
It doesn't matter
About the clothes I wear
And where I go and why
All that matters
Is that you get hyped and
We'll do it to you every time
OK - that last part is pretty funny.
Did I just end a post with 'N Sync lyrics?
