The Plan
So it's day two. My first day of doing an actual activity. I had it all planned out. An activity with my son that I've been meaning to do since the beginning of the year. But there was an admin error. At 4:00 pm I realized that we weren't going to be able to do it.
It was scramble time. What was I going to do? What could I do so last minute? I was exhausted from a day at the park with my kids. Day two and I had already hit a bump.

The Revised Plan

Then I found The Yoga Sanctuary. They had a restorative yoga class at 7:10 pm. I bbmed Dan to make sure he would be home on time. Dinner made (not served); fish nibbled and I was off to my first yoga class in over a decade. I was feeling a bit concerned because the back of my left leg just below my knee was hurting (probably from walking way too much in flip flops).
I knew I was out of practice when I showed up 5 minutes late with no yoga mat (even though I do have one somewhere) and no water. But they rushed me in waiving the signing of the waiver.

The Class
I have to say I was a little apprehensive. I had taken yoga on and off when I was a teenager and in my 20s and have had a lot of bad experiences – bad teachers, pushing too hard, injuries from strange, unnatural positions. I have been of the opinion for many years now that not every body is right for yoga, and my body was definitely wrong.
Everyone was lying down on their backs (no idea the name of the pose - I'm going to guess is ends in "-ana"). OK – I can do that.
For anyone who doesn't know what restorative yoga is, as I didn't, it's really gentle yoga poses that you hold for several minutes each.
Fast forward an hour and a half, the sun was coming through the windows in front of me as it dropped out of sight. An intense tension pain in my lower back, which I never realized I had, released.
The instructor Yosh ended the class with everyone in fetal position saying "congratulate yourself for being courageous." I left feeling restored with no pain in my leg.
Haven't I always said how awesome yoga is? You should really try it. ;)
Let me know if you love yoga or think you might try it – I would suggest restorative yoga for an easy intro.
