At the end of last year, I lost my job. The silver lining was having a bit more time to read books, articles and blogs to help me move forward in my life; continue learning about myself and my personal strengths; and start to take action in some of my creative interests. I suppose that this blog is a result of the past seven months of this new-found time and work that I've been doing.
I already mentioned The Desire Map, by Danielle LaPorte, on the About this blog page. I read that one near the beginning of the year. One of the goals I set out for myself while going through the workbook part of The Desire Map was to start a blog as a way of feeling creative and maybe a bit bold as well. Check!
Well here is another creative first for me. A short time ago, I wrote a poem as a writing exercise, and I thought I'd share it with you today. I don't write poetry often - although it is something I am inspired to do every so often (usually when I'm out west) and it may be something that I do more of in the future. I have never studied poetry. I don't know much about it. But the writing exercise was to form a poem after the poem Baby Wrens' Voices by Thomas R. Smith. The first line of that poem is "I am a student of wrens." And the question put to us by the facilitator/teacher was "What are you a student of?"
So here is one of the things that I am currently a student of. And yes I did end that sentence and the one before it with a preposition. Deal with it.
What are you a student of?
