After I posted yesterday, I realized that my description of going to the movies with my kids sounded so wonderful - so perfect. That may not have been an entirely accurate depiction. The way to the movie was fine; sitting in the movie itself was lovely; leaving the movie made me wonder why we came. And, truth be told, it is always terrible so I must really be tied to the tradition (and really love watching the movie) to put myself through it over and over and over again.
I blame the movie theatre.
I blame the movie theatre.
They have the audacity to make me pay $11.00 to see the movie and $8.50 for each of the kids, an additional $1,000 for the popcorn and drinks (that's a ballpark figure) and then they place a bunch of shoot-em-up video arcade games right in the path of all the screen-loving children as they exit the theatre.
So exiting the theatre on a high from the "I love you mama" hugfest, I'm immediately brought down by the "Can we play some games?" "Can we play some games?" "Can we play some games?" As if asking an additional time will miraculously change the "No, remember we come here to see a movie not to play games," to "Yes absolutely honey. Here's all the money I have in my purse. Let me go and get some more out of the ATM." Well, maybe if he asks for a sixth time.
