No Routine Is a Good Routine?
Today I decided to focus on something I've been thinking about a lot lately. I keep struggling with the idea of creating a routine or ritual. After I became a parent, I realized quite a few things about myself - one of which was that I do not have a routine. I seem to not be able to do routines. I don't know why. I've just come to realize that this is 100% true. Another thing that I'm only starting to come to terms with is that maybe that's OK.
So trying to create a routine of any kind, not to mention a creative routine, is just never going to happen. So I've thought about trying something different - something a bit more fun and with a bit more variety.

My Idea - The Anti-Routine Buffet

In my quest to get myself to follow a routine, or build a habit, I have been reading quite a few blogs and books to help me sort it out and try different things. The two articles I link to below gave me an idea. I decided to write down all the things that I like to do that feel creative, bring me joy and seem like good ways to start or end my day. Some came from the lists in those articles and others are just specific to me.
I decided to make this list in to my own personal buffet and game of sorts. I wrote each one on a small piece of paper, put them in my buddha bag and picked three. The three that came out were
So I did all three. I meditated for about 10 minutes (or tried to anyway - I'm a total newbie at this). I wrote one paragraph of the YA novel that I'm working on. I decided to focus on setting - specifically the house that the main character lives in.
The poem I read was from the Life Prayers book I mentioned in my first post Day 1: Launch Day.

Enough of science and art,
Close up these barren leaves;
Come forth, and bring with you a heart
That watches and receives.

I enjoyed my little creativity game. Maybe I'll do it tomorrow morning or evening or the next day. But if I do miss it tomorrow or the next day or the next, I'm not going to beat myself up about it.
